Hanging around a hackerspace, you can be exposed to new areas of interest that you never knew you’d like. For instance, an electronics hobbyist may not necessarily know about welding, brewing, knitting, ham radio, but by working alongside other people who are, who knows? That member might discover a new interest. Even better is the opportunity to collaborate on a large project. Each member has an opportunity to learn something new.
One collaborator might be an expert programmer, while another might have a degree in electrical engineering. A third member may have nothing to offer besides enthusiasm, an intense curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Together they can create something that individually they wouldn’t have had the time, money, or know-how to make.
